NHS Phlebotomy Training — Stage 1 & Stage 2 Pathway

A) THEORY & DRY LAB COURSE (Part 1):

(1)- One Day Fast Track Phlebotomy Training Course. This includes Theory and Dry Lab experience
on mannequins for those with healthcare experience.

(2)- Two Days Beginners Phlebotomy Training Course. The beginners training also consist of two
parts - Theory + Dry Lab Experience. The teaching covers more ground so that you can achieve
a firm understanding of the basics of Phlebotomy. Candidates go through in detail the legal
aspects of Phlebotomy, Infection control, Health and Safety, practical tips and all the theory parts
of Phlebotomy. You will also practice on a mannequin. On completion this leads to receiving
a Certificate of Attendance.
After completion of either the One Day or Two Days course, you will then need to be booked into
the Live Blood Training which will lead to a Certificate of Competence.

B) LIVE BLOOD TRAINING (Part 2):
-Live Blood Sessions. This is the practical part of the training and it takes place at the NHS
Phlebotomy Clinic or at an NHS Trust. Candidates take blood from the real patients
under the supervision of a trainer and receive an NHS Certificate of Competence at the
completion of this part of the training.
